Isospin–violating nucleon–nucleon forces using the method of unitary transformation

چکیده
Recently, we have derived the leading and subleading isospin–breaking three–nucleon forces using the method of unitary transformation. In the present work we extend this analysis and consider the corresponding two–nucleon forces using the same approach. Certain contributions to the isospin– violating one– and two–pion–exchange potential have already been discussed by various groups within the effective field theory framework. Our findings agree with the previously obtained results. In addition, we present the expressions for the subleading charge–symmetry–breaking two–pion exchange potential which were not considered before. These corrections turn out to be numerically important. Together with the three–nucleon force results presented in our previous work, the results of the present study specify completely isospin–violating nuclear forces up to the order q/Λ, where q (Λ) denotes the soft (hard) scale.

The Nucleon-Mass Difference in Chiral Perturbation Theory and Nuclear Forces
A new method is developed for treating the effect of the neutron-proton mass difference in isospin-violating nuclear forces. Previous treatments utilized an awkward subtraction scheme to generate these forces. A field redefinition is used to remove that mass difference from the Lagrangian (and hence from asymptotic nucleon states) and replace its effect by effective interactions. Previous calcu...
متن کاملEffective Field Theory and Isospin Violation in Few–Nucleon Systems
I discuss the leading and subleading isospin–breaking three–nucleon forces in the chiral effective field theory framework. INTRODUCTION Isospin violation has its origin within the Standard Model in the different masses of the up and down quarks and electromagnetic interaction. Its consequences for few–nucleon systems can be studied in a systematic way within chiral Effective Field Theory (EFT)....
متن کاملIsospin Violations in the Pion-Nucleon System
We examine the effect of isospin-violating meson-nucleon coupling constants on low-energy pion-nucleon scattering. We compute the couplings in the context of a nonrelativistic quark model. The difference between the up and down constituent masses induces a coupling of the neutral pion to the proton that is slightly larger than the corresponding one for the neutron. This difference generates a l...
متن کاملCorrelated Realistic Two-Body Interactions and the Tjon Line
With the advent of realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions, which reproduce the experimental NN scattering phase shifts and deuteron properties with high precision, the importance of three-body interactions became evident. Ab initio solutions of the nuclear many-body problem for p-shell nuclei, e.g. in the framework of Green’s Function Monte Carlo or no-core shell model approaches, have demonstr...
متن کاملIsospin-violating meson-nucleon vertices as an alternate mechanism of charge-symmetry breaking.
We compute isospin-violating meson-nucleon coupling constants and their consequent charge-symmetry-breaking nucleon-nucleon potentials. The couplings result from evaluating matrix elements of quark currents between nucleon states in a nonrelativistic constituent quark model; the isospin violations arise from the difference in the up and down constituent quark masses. We find, in particular, tha...
